Father's Day #1

Last week we celebrated Josh's first Father's Day.  I can't claim it was super exciting since I can't really get up and go somewhere cool, but we did try to make it special.  My sisters did my bidding and went out to pick up Josh's gift for me and Baby M.  They also picked out the most spectacular card I've seen in quite some time.

Josh did go out and pick-up a special lunch.  We indulged with a little Park Burger.  It was super yummy and my blood sugar level didn't even spike (I didn't eat the entire BBQ burger, Josh helped me finish it off--that's what dads do).

We also spent a little time enjoying our new back yard.  I promise I was only standing for about 2 minutes.

Baby Shower!

I am a very lucky girl.  I am surrounded by friends and family who are beyond generous.  Seriously, the amount of love and generosity people have shown Josh and I over the past year is overwhelming and I don't think we will ever be able to fully repay it.

The above photo was taken right before my Denver baby shower, thrown by my friend Catherine, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law.  I call it my Denver baby shower because it was primarily for my friends in Denver.  The family baby shower was supposed to be in July, but my doctor told me I can't  drive that distance while on bed rest, so its looking like my baby will be coming along with me to my belated shower in Pueblo.

The people in the photo only represent about half of the crew it took to get  my house and yard in-shape for the shower.  People came over to cook, clean, and put in an entire yard (we now have a sprinkler system and real grass!!)

Everything about the shower was lovely.  Click here to see pictures (there are a few of the nursery in-progress).  I had a great time.  Thanks again to everyone who helped prepare and attended.  We got some fabulous stuff for little Miss Messner.

I've been on bed rest now for a little over too weeks.  On the positive side, it seems to be working.  We haven't seen any changes during our last two OB visits.  Since things can't get better, no change is as good as it gets.  On the negative side, bed rest is getting really old.  It is really frustrating to lose your independence.  Of course I've had lots of help and visitors, but having to ask people for help with EVERYTHING gets old really fast.  At least we only have about 10 more weeks to go.

Oh yeah, I got diagnosed with gestational diabetes too.  I'm just borderline, so all I have to do right now is watch my diet, document everything I eat and stab my fingers six times per day.  At least I don't have to give myself shots, but I'm still depressed about it.

Here I am at 29 weeks.  I refuse to take pictures lying in bed, so this is during one of my few "breaks" to stand.  You might also notice our yard in the background is dirt.  We are getting sod tomorrow!!  I hope it looks pretty.  I can't wait!  I haven't had real sprinklers in at least 7 years!

Sorry this post is so depressing.  Maybe I'll get Josh to guest blog again soon and pick up the spirit.
