October Recap

Yes, fall is here and it's starting to get chilly outside.  Josh and I have been so busy the last few weekends, I honestly didn't see it coming. We have been spoiled with nice weather and tons of fun activities to keep us distracted.

A few weeks ago we went down to Pueblo to run the Hot to Trot 5K and prep our roasted chiles for the year.  Despite basically any training, I was able to maintain my 10 minute mile pace.  Abby, on the other hand, took first place in her age group.  She was rewarded with a jar of salsa, a bag of beans and a zucchini.  Yes, you read that right.  We keep it practical down in Pueblo.

By the end of the weekend, we had prepped 5 bushels of chile peppers.  That entailed going out to Musso Farms to get the chiles roasted; peeling the skin off; cutting off the stems; putting them in freezer bags; and labeling them so we know which type we are eating.  This year we bought Pueblo Chiles and Big Jims.  Yum!

We also had a few celebrations.  First, we packed our bags and headed up to Estes Park for my cousin Carla's wedding.  It was a ton of fun to hang out and party with my aunts, uncles, cousins, grandpa, sisters and parents, especially in a fun little mountain town.  We even got rowdy enough to have the cops stop in our hotel room to give us a warning.  We were totally free to dream--(you had to be there).

The second celebration was Josh's 29th birthday fiesta!!  Josh made green chili, I made red chili and we picked up some junior burritos for a little birthday party at our house.  Of course a fiesta isn't a fiesta until you have a pinata.  Therefore, we had two--one filled with gum, mentos, tic tacs and little shooters (Broncos star) and another that we fashioned into a wine dispenser (chile pepper).  It was sweet.

Appearances were also made by two swords, Tampico, a beer bong named Clayton and lots and lots of fake mustaches.  Sound weird to you?  Well it was, but in a totally fun and festive fashion.  We also managed to break our dining room window, but I guess that is just part of a a successful fiesta.  You can see party pictures in our gallery or here.  I tried my hand at creating a DIY photo booth in our basement--that's where all the fake mustaches came in (I made those too).  You can see the photo booth shots here.  If you don't have time to flip through the photos, here are a few gems from the evening.

Missed the Target on that One

If you know me at all, you know I love dressing up.  Therefore, I naturally adore Halloween.  Unfortunately this year I'm going to be out of town on Halloween weekend and flying on the actual holiday.  I'm not complaining too much since I will be in Napa, but I'm a little sad that I might miss out on some fun costume parties.  I don't think dressing up in a costume on an airplane is a very good idea these days considering the current security situation.  Face paint, masks and fake wounds might be a little suspicious.

Regardless, I've still done some browsing on the costume websites to see whats out there this year.  I have to admit I'm shocked at some of the "sexy" costumes on the market for women. 

Seriously, sexy Chucky???!

I think it is also weird when grown women want to dress up like sexy cartoon characters.  I can sometimes understand Disney princesses and comic book characters, but Nemo--the fish??  I don't think many people could actually guess what this woman is supposed to be dressed up as.  I might have guessed a being a member of the Cincinnati Bengals pep squad who moonligts as a stripper.  Am I wrong?

This one threw me for a loop too.  I've NEVER thought Sponge Bob Square Pants was sexy.  But apparently, I'm wrong.  I feel like it would be sexier to wear a box painted like a big yellow sponge than this monstrosity.

It would look much cuter on a kid. . . . or a beagle for that matter.

I Wanna Take a Napa

Our anniversary is this month, October 28th to be exact!  We typically don't do anything to extravagant, but this year we planned a trip out to California and I'm super excited.  We are going to spend a few days in Napa Valley sipping wine, eating delicious food, riding bikes and picnicing; and one night out on the town in San Francisco.  I have a little book full of names of different wineries, restaurants and fun stops, but I'd rather have some recommendations from real people who have actually been there.  So if you have any suggestions of places we shouldn't miss please leave a comment, give me a call, etc.  Until then, I'll be counting down the days  hours until our mini vacation.  Cheers!
