I went to try pho for lunch today. If you haven’t had it before, it is a somewhat sweet broth with rice noodles. The kind I ordered had rare steak on the top that cooked when you sunk it in the broth. Any way, back to the point, I have a strange obsession with napkins. I always grab way more than I need and pile them on my lap. After I eat I always feel guilty for wasting them because the only place I drip/spill is where the napkins were not. However, today I managed to dump a giant spoonful of pho into my lap and my napkins completely absorbed the spill. I mean, not a single drop got on my pants or shirt. I know it doesn’t seem that cool, but everyone at the table was truly impressed because I dumped at least a cup of broth into my lap. I should have been drenched in pho, but the napkin pile did its duty.
Oh yeah, my overall impression of the pho was that it was just ok. I think people hyped it up too much. My expectations were way too high. I hate when that happens!! The worst part was all of the people from work asking me what I thought of lunch. They wanted it to be awesome, special, and addictive since they introduced it to me (and its all the rage in New York), so I agreed with them to be nice. I didn't want to tell them the most impressive part of lunch was the validation of my obsessive napkin usage.
