Happy Halloween!!

On Saturday night we celebrated our friend Alli's 30th Birthday.  She had a Halloween/Birthday shindig at Strange Brewing Company.  It was a good time. . .and guess what?  Josh broke out the Cheshire Cat costume again this year.  A new addition--the whiskers he shaved into his beard.  I picked up on the Alice in Wonderland theme and put together a stellar Mad Hatter costume.  Old school, NOT the Johnny Depp version (creepy). Nicole and Erick rocked Scott Pilgrim inspired costumes.  Nicole was Ramona Flowers, complete with goggles and a large hammer.  Erick was G-Man and pulled it off quite well. Here are a few snapshots from the evening.

Single Tri-Colored Beagle seeks Warm Welcoming Space Heater

We don't have heat hooked-up in our house right now.  It has been snowing since last night.  Needless to say, it has been cold, so I picked up our little space heater from my sister-in-laws last night.  Stanley was really excited.

Joshtoberfest

My incredibly handsome and intelligent husband recently had a birthday.  A big one.  Since he has been working so hard on the house lately, I decided to go big on his celebration.  We typically have a big party at the house; remember last year?  Well, our house isn't really in any condition for a party right now, especially considering we don't have walls in some rooms, so I had to think of something special. 

That something special manifested into Joshtoberfest, a bad-ass brewery tour covering 6 breweries in 3 Denver metro cities via strech Escalade.  Yes, a stretch Escalade. . . with a fully stocked bar.  It was epic.

The Current State of Affairs

We are making lots of progress in the Messner household.  For the first time since June we have walls in our kitchen/dining rooms.  The walls aren't finished, but there are walls!  The masonry on the outside of the house is pretty well wrapped up too.  The mud between the bricks is still drying, but the house should look pretty darn good when we are done.  Oh yeah, we are in the middle of getting our roof replaced too.  We currenlty have a mountain of old shingles in our front yard.  Here are a few pictures of the progress we have seen the last week and a half.

A Quick Break

So, it's October now.  That seriously blows my mind.  This year is going by so quickly.  Lots has been going on at the house, but nothing that photographs really well.  Here are some highlights.

1. Our appliances are here. . . sitting in our living room until the kitchen is ready.
2.  We installed french doors in the dining room nook.  Classy.
3.  Electrical is almost done.
4.  Plumbing has been inspected and is almost done.
5.  The masons are ready to start laying bricks on the additon.
6.  We are putting in insulation (thankfully!  it sleeted all day yesterday)
and
7.  Josh and an amazing crew of our friends and family set the posts for our backyard fence.

While they were working hard, I was in Washington state for a wedding.  I felt a little guilty, but it was a quick trip.  My sister and I explored Seattle before our bachelorette party extravaganza.  It was a ton of fun.  We ate the most amazing chowder!!  The bachelorette party was a huge success and the wedding was gorgeous!!  We were very lucky.  The weather was perfect--clear and sunny.  I loved it.
