Does the ground feel cold??

Yes, hell must have frozen over because I actually read a book for pleasure last week. It’s not that I don’t like to read. I just haven’t really tried reading for pleasure since college; and even the books I read back then were mostly for school. I’m not really sure why I decided to pick up a book. I get suggestions for great books all the time and tend to pass on them. This time it was my hair stylist who planted the seed in my head. I guess her enthusiasm was effective, and I found myself picking the book up off of the shelf to occupy my time while I was getting an oil change last Tuesday. Fortunately/annoyingly, the oil change lasted far too long, giving me the opportunity to get locked into the story. It was good enough I managed to finish it yesterday. Unfortunately/Luckily, the book is part of a saga, so I have plenty more reading in my future. Plus, the book was made into a movie that is being released this November. It is called Twilight. I think the trailers have already been showing. It is safe to say I will need to see it; it’s also safe to say I will have probably finished the series by then too. If you are bored, planning on flying, or just want to read a fun story featuring young lovers, suspense, vampires, and supernatural abilities. . . . pick up Twilight. Even I read it.

Nice Use of Garden Gnomes

Down at the very bottom of the page I have added Does It Offend You, Yeah?'s Dawn of the Dead video. I really liked their use of garden gnomes throughout the video. In addition, they have a well-casted raccoon. Enjoy.

We saw these guys perform at the Monolith Music Festival. They played down in the Heart of the Rock Theatre (where Josh and I got married). It was one of the best performances of the festival, in my opinion. Plus, I think the black guy who plays the guitar was making eyes at me.

Am I Really that Oblivious??

I was just in the restroom at work--I know--too much information. I don't care because for some reason I felt like I needed to share this story. While buttoning my pants I realized that I had a dryer sheet stuck in my shirt. Mind you, this is about 1:30 in the afternoon. How did I walk around all day with a giant dryer sheet stuck up my shirt and not even notice it? I should have felt it, right? Or seen it when I pulled my shirt over my head?? No. I am obviously out of it. However, I have to admit, I have done much worse in the past. One day I dressed myself, took the bus to school and sat through an entire physics lab before I realized I didn't put on any underwear. . . or a bra. The worst part about that day was that I still had to be at school for another 8 hours.

On a different occasion, about a year after the underwear incident, I had another really good day. It was around February, but for some reason it was really beautiful outside. I was anxious to get out of class and get home, but I had to make a quick pit stop before getting on the bus. After I got out of the bathroom, I headed out across campus. It was nice enough outside I didn't need to zip up my jacket. There was a little bit of a breeze, but I had a pretty short shirt on so I didn't pay much attention to the chill. As I walked to the bus a few people seemed to stare at me, but I was cocky, and assumed I must be looking exceptionally hot. I got to the bus late and had to stand. I always thought it was a little strange that those who were lucky enough to sit down on the bus had the unpleasant task of staring directly into those who had to stand's crotch. However, since I was feeling sexy that day, I didn't worry about it too much. When I finally got to my stop I got off the bus and was met by a sudden chill. It wasn't until then that I finally looked down. Somehow I had cruised around for the last hour with my pants completely unbuttoned, unzipped, and sagging down revealing all that god gave me. No wonder people were staring! That poor guy on the bus!! He must have either been horribly uncomfortable or barely able to hold in his laughter. The only advice I can give is "check yourself before you wreck yourself."

Chile and Frijoles

This past weekend we went down to Pueblo for the 14th Annual Chile & Frijole Festival. We have gone to the festival three years in a row, mainly, because it is a nice time to visit Pueblo. The weather is nice, the smell of roasting chile peppers is amazing, and its pretty calm since it is pre-holiday season. This year we decided to mix things up a bit and we decided to run the festival 5K. We also suckered our sisters and Erick to run with us. Unfortunately, none of us prepared for the race, so we were all sucking air by the end. However, we put the pain behind us to enjoy our participation rewards: free breakfast and T-shirt featuring three beans and a chili pepper racing each other. Yeah, I know you are jealous. On a positive note, despite most of us running very slowly, 4 of the 6 of us still came out winners. Abby won 2nd place in her age division. Nicole won a gift certificate to Magpies. Erick won a gift certificate to some adventure sport store, but was inside when his name was called, so they gave it to someone else. When he came back outside, the race officials felt bad and gave him a jar of Pueblo salsa instead. Anna also won a gift certificate to DC's--I've never been there, but I hear it is good. Therefore, everyone won something except Josh and I. . . . that sounds about right. Regardless, it was a fun event.
After the post-race breakfast, we hung around at the festival to check out the booths and sample some of the festival food we look forward to each year.

Mint Ice Cream

Josh wanted a pork-chop-on-a-stick, but the firemen bought the first ones off the grill. He was pretty upset.
Fresh Squeezed Lemonade and Kettle Corn. . . delicious!!
After the festival we headed out to Musso Farms to get the real deal. We bought two bushels of chile peppers and had them roasted with a bunch of garlic. We split the two bushels evenly with Nicole & Erick and peeled and bagged them together at home. This year we only got Big Jim's and Pueblo chiles. The Big Jim's are a medium intensity chile, while the Pueblo's are pretty darn hot. . . and yummy. We didn't do any Anaheim's this year, but I am ok with that. The bushel we brought home should last us all year, so look forward to lots of good food with some Pueblo flare in the potluck dishes to come.

Rock Show(s)

Last weekend was exhausting. We had two events to balance while trying to be good puppy/dog parents. Between walking, feeding, playing, and cleaning up after the dogs, Josh and I spent some time at two very different types of rock shows. The first rock show was just what it sounds like. . . an event featuring different rocks, gems, and fossils. We attend the rock show every year with Josh's parents because it usually falls on or around Josh's dad's birthday. For those of you who have never attended one of these types of events, here's a little break down of what it is like. Imagine pulling up to a Holiday Inn surrounded by mass chaos. The place is swarming with people filing in and out of big white tents full of giant geodes, fossils and what-have-you. Now, that isn't the weird part. What is weird is that the inside of the hotel is also full of different rock and gem dealers presenting their goods--not in the hotel ballroom mind you--they are located inside the hotel rooms. These guys have pushed the beds against the wall or have piled one bed on top of another the make room for their showcases. So imagine walking down the hallway of a hotel occasionally popping into the tiny rooms to look at rocks with one or two other people while the dealers sit on the beds waiting for someone to take intrest in something. The picture to the right gives you an idea of what the room set up is like on one side. The other side of the room is fairly sleazy looking and often features an overweight dealer watching The Price is Right from the bed. I'm not gonna lie. . . it is pretty strange, but Josh's dad loves rocks so we go every year. This year Josh and I only went on Saturday, but I think his sister went three days in a row. It is pretty intense.

After our 2008 rock show experience, we went to Red Rocks for a different type of rock show: The Monolith Music Festival. Don't get me wrong, there were plenty of weirdos at the music festival, but it was far less creepy than the rock show. We saw a bunch a pretty sweet bands including: Tokyo Police Club, CSS, Cut Copy, Justice, Does It Offend You, Yeah?, TV on the Radio, and many more. There was even a band that featured a tap dancer as an instrument, Tilly and the Wall. Check them out on YouTube here. The dude singer/guitar player talked to me earlier in the day and asked for the time before I realized he was in the band. Overall, the festival was pretty sweet. However, that much music is exhausting and we went full throtle the first day. Here are a few pictures from day one. I didn't even bother bringing the camera for day two. I knew the photos wouldn't be flattering in the least.

Rocking Out

At some point I thought it was a good idea to get my hair done.

Josh rocking out

At some point I also thought ice cream and wine were a good idea

For some reason there were hula hoops there . . . and I thought I needed to try one.

My night ended shortly thereafter.

And She Shall be Called . . .

After 4 days of being called baby girl, the puppy finally has a name. She is going to be called Riley the Miniature Piglet. However, it is fine if you just call her Riley. The second part of her name was arrived upon courtesy of Google. I had thought about calling the puppy Tetly, so I googled "tetly + name." This is the image that popped up. I thought it was hilarious, and even though we didn't name the puppy Tetly, the miniature piglet part stuck.

New Puppy!!

Josh and I got a puppy today. We weren't really planning on it, but opportunity knocked. She is a 12 week old lemon/white beagle. We haven't named her yet, but have a few good ones in mind. She met Stanley for the first time this morning. They got along. She relly likes his sandbox. Note her sandy nose. Here are a few more photos from her first day as a Messner.
