Wow! Sorry it has been so long since I last posted. I feel like I have been sick for the last month, plus, we have been busy looking for houses. Our house went under contract just after St. Patrick's Day and everything is looking good for a mid-May closing. Keep your fingers crossed!! We are super-excited, but it has been a little stressful trying to find the perfect house to make our next home. So, in the mean-time, let's take a look at a few before and after pictures of our current place. Luckily, we didn't have to do any major renovations over the last five years, but some things have definitely changed.
Here is the front of our house back in 2006
Here is the front of the house now: less old, dead trees; new pavers; new landscaping; and new paint.
The two pictures above are from the back of the house in 2006. We haven't changed a lot. Sadly, the cherry tree died about 2 years after we moved in. I loved that tiny tree and its little white flowers. I didn't love it so much after it died--very scary looking. We did move the fence in the back; build a gate; and create some space for additional parking. Very convenient, not so pretty.
The backyard actually looks a lot prettier when things are green. I do know, the next house will live in will have sprinklers.
Above is the dining room pre-Messners. Below is the Dining room now with new light fixtures and curtains.
The next set of pictures is our Living Room. Not much has changed. We added an updated ceiling fan and gradually bought smarter furniture over time. The guy in the first photo was the boyfriend of the seller.
Here are the two bedrooms before we moved in:
Here are the two bedrooms now. We painted the master. It used to be the color of diarrhea w/ one maroon wall. Now it is cream with a small amount of light green on one wall. We also changed out the light fixture with a more modern fan; bought new curtains and rods; and put up some shelving. In the guest bedroom we changed out the light fixture; built a new closet to make in an official bedroom; and added some curtains.
We only have one bathroom in the house. We didn't make many changes since it was already updated. We added a magazine rack; a new shower curtain; and our own style. The first picture below is the original bathroom. The other is current.
Here is the kitchen. We really haven't changed a thing.
We did a little construction in our hall closet. It used to be one, long, massive closet. This year we built a wall in the middle to create the 2nd bedroom closet. Surprisingly, the hall closet is more useful now that it isn't as deep. Josh did a good job. Here's the before:
This is the after shot. It doesn't show all of the shelving we created at the top. It is very organized now.
This was our basement when we moved in: one long room and a creepy laundry room.
Since that time: we painted; added lots of shelving for storage; put up a gate to keep the dogs away from the storage, but allow them to stay inside during the day (with a dog door to the outside); and I added a stand-alone closet in the laundry room. The green chair is usually upstairs, but we moved it out of the way for showings.
Well, that's the tour. We will definitely miss our first place, but we are looking forward to the changes ahead. Wish us luck finding the right place!
